Europa League - Thursday Tasty Treats

Juventus v Fulham:

In the last round Juventus overcame Ajax while Fulham eliminated defending champions Shahktar Donetsk. Juventus drew 0-0 at home in the second leg after taking a 2-1 advantage away from Holland, while Fulham took a 2-1 lead from Craven Cottage to the Ukraine, where they progressed thanks to a 1-1 draw. However, their recent form in all competitions at home (Juve) and away (Fulham) is similar. Both sides have won one of their last five games, with Fulham’s only away win coming against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup. Fulham have drawn their three away games in all competitions and only scored one goal in that time, against Shahktar. Juventus have failed to score in their last two home games, drawing one and losing one, and because of this I feel that this game will be a low scoring affair.

Recommend: Back the draw @ 3/1 with less than 2.5 goals to be scored @ 8/11.

Lille v Liverpool:

This match is the first time that these two sides have met in a competitive match and, despite having won only once in their last seven away games in all competitions, Liverpool are the favourites to win this match and take an advantage to Anfield for the second leg. Liverpool go into the game after putting in a terrible performance at Wigan Athletic on Monday night. They played poorly and were beaten 1-0. This was the fourth time in their last five away games that they have failed to score, with only the 3-1 win at Unirea Urziceni being the time they scored. Lille are the second highest scorers in the Europa League this season with eighteen goals and only sit two points behind Lyon in the French league. Lyon drew with Liverpool in Lyon and defeated the Reds at Anfield and Lille are just as good as Lyon.

Recommend: Back Lille to beat Liverpool @ 2/1 with there to be more than 2.5 goals in the game @ 6/5 as nine of Lille’s last ten home games have had at least three goals.

Atletico Madrid v Sporting Lisbon:

Atletico Madrid go into this match as major favourites at 8/11 compared to Lisbon’s 3/1. The reason for this is that Atletico are unbeaten at home in four matches, including beating Barcelona 2-1 and Valencia 4-1, while Sporting Lisbon had gone six games away from home without a win until last weekend. Sporting are a different team away from home than when they are at home. Against Everton at Goodison Park they were terrible and only a penalty at the end of the game gave them a goal, compared to a wonderful performance last week in Portugal saw them run out 3-0 winners.

Recommend: Back Atletico Madrid to win the game @ 8/11 with both sides to score @ 10/11.

Be brave!  Tonto is watching.

Ta!

Nice 2 to 1 one on Lille, the rest went haywire thus far. ATM couldn't score against a nine man Sporting Lisbon ... that one is surprising.

Yep, ATM is now going in the crapper for me. Unreliable group of underachievers in that squad - this was a lay up all day and then Sporting goes down a guy in the first half and parked the bus. The second red didn't happen until the end of the game so it really wasn't much of a benefit there.

Bad bad day - it happens. That's why I said, Be Brave!

Didn't see THAT coming from my beloved squad - struggling to score goals and they get three. Fantastic. Anybody got an idea on the co-efficient stuff between Italy, Germany and France?

I wish there was a calculator someplace so we could track it.

Nice calculator they put up there tonight. Seems like Juventus, who's won the UEFA Cup three times already, is suddenly the bogeyman team nobody wants to play in this competition.

If Juventus takes out Fulham and Valencia or At Madrid go through this could get a little fiesty for the English and the top co-efficient, no?

If it makes you boys feel any better, I didn't even look at this tipsheet and I pretty much went with every recommendation here. Especially a draw for Juve given Roy's history in Serie A and against that manager he faced back in the 90s.

If you're brave and want to spend the afternoon pulling your hair out of your head, like me:

Catania v Inter to end as a draw @ 3.20
After sitting in the bottom three for the first half of the season, Catania have put on a decent run recently and are unbeaten in their last five home games. In that time they have won three and drawn two, conceding only one goal. Inter are unbeaten in six away league fixtures, winning two and drawing four. Their focus will be on the Champions League fixture against Chelsea and Catania can take a point against the league leaders - a massive acheivement.

You may want to distinguish between your "BEST BETS" and your "VALUE PICKS" in the future because I suspect most people here who aren't into hardcore action know the difference in your game, Sonny!

Just some handy advice. Your value picks are always quality, but they are far more risky in the real world. Kinda like the stocks vs commodities argument, capece?

PS - Check out this Mariga kid playing in the midfield for Inter at Catania today. He's a Patrick Vieira clone - long before he landed in Italy looking for a payday. Long stride, physical, great vision.

I wasn't this brave, but I wish I took the goals in the one - underdogs in Serie A like you've said time and time again are monster money makers. So if a point is a massive achievement I'd say three is Virgin Mary in a Cheese Sandwich material, eh?

Loved that Catania game yesterday. Was that an Inter player or supporter being led off the pitch yesterday all bloodied up? Looked like a nasty gash under his eye whoever it was.

Anybody pick up on this one from Sonny in the private email?

"In the Tottenham Hotspur v Blackburn Rovers game, i'm backing both teams to score @ evens and splitting stakes on 2-1 @ 15/2 and 3-1 @ 13/1"

13-1!!!!!!! That guy's been wildly good.
