EPL No Longer World's Most Profitable

The English Premier League has been overtaken in the profitability stakes by Germany's Bundesliga, according to new figures. Research conducted by financial firm Deloitte has revealed German clubs made profits of £146.1 million last season, dwarfing the £79 million made by English sides struggling to cope with ever-larger wage bills.
Deloitte Sport Business Group director Dan Jones said: "The wages increase is definitely something people should be concerned about and that will be even more the case when the UEFA [financial fair play] initiatives are in full swing."
England's top-flight wage bill increased to £1.3 billion last year, accounting for 67 per cent of overall turnover, with the most significant increase in player salaries seen among the 13 clubs outside the top four and the three newly-promoted teams.
Last month, a survey carried out by the Football Fans Census for the Times found 60 per cent of 5,000 football fans surveyed indicated support for the introduction of a salary cap.

They where far from impressive in qualifying, finishing a solitary point above Chile and Paraguay.
Take away their performances at South American cup and confederations cup an I wonder, how where Brasil ever among the favourites?
Consider the Dutch unbeaten run, and Germany's world cup record.
Before world cup they where far from invincible!

Del Neri building new Juventus around Marchisio
Category: Europe - Italy
Created by: worldfootballbook Create Date: May 27, 2010 Last Comment: July 3, 2010
New Juventus coach Gigi del Neri says midfielder Claudio Marchisio is crucial to his plans. Del Neri has detailed his squad plans for next season.
He said: “Aggressive, applied, organized. My objective is to make the opponent worry about us again, the opposite mustn't exist; we have to be concrete, care for the particulars, attack and defend at the same time.
“Andrea Agnelli said three words to me, all of them the same: work, work, work. I have got to know a young man of great worth in the sense that he understands football. I have the impression that he chose me in person. You shouldn't expect a revolution. We will not throw out the baby with the bath water. This group has value. Juve scraped together 55 points last season, which is more than nothing. There will be changes and adjustments, not twists.
“For me, Buffon and Del Piero are two champions who we should focus on. They represent a legacy of class, experience and personality. One bad year can't cancel out Buffon and Del Piero.
“Del Piero is the charismatic captain of Juventus. For the future, I am thinking to Marchisio, an important element, a central midfielder who plays inside not outside. He is young, has a good temperament. I like him.”

Palermo's owner claims that Fabrizio Miccoli is set to snub Birmingham to remain with the Serie A club. Earlier, Palermo announced Miccoli would appear at a press conference on Thursday to reveal his future plans, but Maurizio Zamparini has not waited to claim Miccoli is staying.
"Fabrizio will remain with us," he said on reterete24.it, adding that Thursday's press conference will "erase any doubt over the permanence of our captain".
He continued: "I met Miccoli, and I reiterated the esteem and confidence the club holds him in. He was a bit worried after he suffered a knee injury. But I told him to stay because we consider him a key part of the project."
Palermo sporting director Walter Sabatini admitting Birmingham had made enquiries about the 30-year-old.
Sabatini had told TGS: "Is Miccoli considering Birmingham's offer? It is normal that a player has some doubts when an offer is received. Palermo do not want to sell the player. We will evaluate everything soon. Miccoli is essential for us, and it is important that we do not lose him. But it is equally important that everyone is happy."

Inter Now Under Investigation
Category: Europe - Italy
Created by: juveazzurri Create Date: June 11, 2010 Last Comment: June 12, 2010
The Italian football federation (FIGC) have confirmed they are investigating possible transfer irregularities after Diego Milito and Thiago Motta moved from Genoa to Inter Milan. The FIGC confirmed they will question the presidents of both clubs over the double transfer which took place at the end of the 2008-09 Serie A season.
The case centres around the involvement of Genoa owner and president Enrico Preziosi, who is banned from footballing activities for five years, but has claimed to have instigated the sale of the duo to Inter.
A spokesperson for the Italian federation confirmed that their disciplinary committee have called Preziosi and Inter president Massimo Moratti up for questioning and revealed that more information will be forthcoming.
However, she refused to comment on reports suggesting the Nerazzurri could be stripped of one of their titles. Preziosi was handed a five-year ban in May 2005 after he was found to be heavily involved in the club bribing Venezia to throw a match against Genoa.
The Grifone, who had just been promoted to Serie A for the first time in 10 years, were relegated to the third division. The FIGC have known about a possible contravening of the ban for almost a year after
Preziosi told local TV channel Telenord: "I saw Moratti at breakfast, we reached an agreement on the valuation of the two players and we shook hands. Between us there is a lot of sympathy and there could be other collaborations in the future."
