Galaxy Head Confirms Interest In Arena
Category: United States - Major League Soccer (MLS)

With the rumors of Bruce Arena joining the Los Angeles Galaxy growing by the day, the sight of Arena in the Galaxy box at Home Depot Center for Thursday night's match between the Galaxy and Chivas USA gave the talk even more life, but not nearly as much as comments made by AEG president Tim Leiweke about Arena during the ESPN broadcast of the match.
Leiweke met with Arena on Thursday, clarifying that the meeting was not an interview, but a meeting of friends to discuss how to fix the problems LA is dealing with. If Leiweke's comments about Arena are any indication, it sounds as if the Galaxy coaching job is Arena's to accept or turn down.
"No bones about it, if I could convince Bruce to join AEG and join the Galaxy, he'd be the ideal guy to come in here," Leiweke said. "There's not a better candidate. There's not a better potential coach. He knows more about the game. I have more respect, Mr. Anschutz has great respect for Bruce, so we'd be honored to have him.
"Whether or not that happens, time will tell."

Bradley names USA roster vs. Guatemala

U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley has named a 17-man roster for the U.S. team's World Cup qualifying match against Guatemala set for next Wednesday in Guatemala City. There are no real surprises, though one absence from the list is sure to rile up some of you.
Here is the roster:
GOALKEEPERS: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan.
DEFENDERS: Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra, Heath Pearce, Steve Cherundolo, Frankie Hejduk, Jay DeMerit.
MIDFIELDERS: Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Sacha Kljestan, Pablo Mastroeni, Eddie Lewis.
FORWARDS: Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Brian Ching, Clint Dempsey.
The fact that it's only a 17-man roster tells me that Bob Bradley will be adding a few names to the list before the team actually departs for Guatemala.
What do you think of the squad? Happy with it? Angry? Wondering where Kenny Cooper is?

Feilhaber in talks with MLS, could wind up with Revs
Category: United States - Major League Soccer (MLS)

U.S. Olympic team midfielder Benny Feilhaber is in talks with Major League Soccer about a move that could land him in the league with the New England Revolution. According to sources familiar with the discussions, Feilhaber and MLS are in talks over a three-year deal that could result in Feilhaber joining the Revs, which are currently holders of the top allocation in the MLS allocation order after Los Angeles recently put in an allocation claim on U.S. midfielder/defender Eddie Lewis and Colorado claimed former U.S. national team defender Cory Gibbs.
Feilhaber is set to leave Derby County after one failed season with the recently relegated English club, and while reports had linked him to a move to Danish club AGF Aarhus, sources tell "Soccer By Ives" (SBI) that Feilhaber wants a move back to the United States after spending the past three years in Europe (two with German club Hamburg and the past year with Derby County).
If he signs with MLS and joins New England, Feilhaber could slide in perfectly into a central midfield role with the Revs, who have the cap room to acquire Feilhaber at the financial figures currently being discussed. The Revolution recently acquired allocation money and also moved up in the MLS Allocation Order through its trade of Pat Noonan's rights to the Columbus Crew.
The 23-year-old central midfielder is working his way back from a knee injury suffered earlier in the summer and was limited to appearances off the bench for the U.S. Olympic team, which was just eliminated from the Olympic Tournament.
What do you think of Feilhaber potentially signing with MLS? How about the possibility of him partnering in a central midfield with Shalrie Joseph? Is he better off in MLS or should he give Europe another run?

ESPN: Beckham 'disappointed' but backs Gullit decision
Category: United States - Major League Soccer (MLS)

David Beckham admits he is "disappointed" by Ruud Gullit's decision to walk out on Los Angeles Galaxy, but accepts his choice if life was not working out for him in California. It was reported that Beckham's influence led to Gullit's departure but Tim Leiwke, chief executive of the AEG group that owns the club said: "To those who claim there was influence [by Beckham], this was my decision solely. I don't think David knew about this decision until the team meeting."
And monkeys fly? Cha, right!

US U23 Team in Beijing

Now that they are officially knocked out of the competition here are a few things that have come to light. Obviously the greatest failure were the overage selections for this team - Brian McBride just didn't have the right amount of time to mesh with this edition of the team. Ante Razov, who would have worked much better with Chivas USA teammate Sasha Kljestan, or Taylor Twellman were quite simply the guys to call up.
Bringing Altidore off the bench was a mistake. If he's the next big thing in American soccer, why use him so carefully unless his La Liga team demanded it.
Freddie Adu is clearly the best player on this team, but even with a yellow card for a foolish delay tactic cost them slightly less than Nowak taking him off the pitch too early against the Dutch. They simply couldn't hold onto the ball once he left the contest. Nowak already knew he was lost to the squad for the Nigeria game, so why not ride that horse all the way through?
Finally, Rogers, Holden and Kljestan are real gamers who are probably destined for bigger and better places than MLS. And who exactly thought it was the right decision to leave Charlie Davies on the sideline. What we saw of him was dazzling speed and a nose for the ball - a waste to leave him off the team.
