FIFA consider time out for extra time
World Cup FIFA is to consider abolishing extra time at the World Cup and going straight to penalties if knockout matches are drawn. President Sepp Blatter also said that FIFA would look at ways of encouraging teams to play a more attacking game after a flurry of low-scoring contests in the early stages of this year's World Cup in South Africa. "In the first few matches of the group stage in South Africa, we witnessed some teams that went out to avoid defeat, that were playing for a draw from the outset," he told FIFA's website. "This is a topic that I would like to discuss at upcoming football and technical committee meetings. We have to try to find a way to encourage free-flowing football in tournaments like the World Cup, with teams playing to win. "We plan to take the opportunity to look at the concept of extra time as well. Often we see teams set themselves up even more defensively in extra time, in an attempt to avoid conceding a goal at all costs. "To prevent this, we could go directly to a penalty shootout at full time, or reintroduce the golden goal rule. We'll see what emerges from the committee meetings."

Izaguirre to be Celtic's answer to Roberto Carlos
Celtic Real Madrid Celtic full back Emilio Izaguirre has ambitions to become the club's answer to Roberto Carlos. The Honduras international has set his ambitions high after his £600,000 switch to Parkhead last month. The 24-year-old admitted Roberto Carlos, who became a household name in world football for Real Madrid and Brazil, was his idol growing up. He told the Daily Record: "He is the man who inspired me as a youngster and is one I have looked up to since I was a young child starting the game. "Roberto Carlos plays the position I have always played. I like to watch his style and the way he plays the game. "He likes to attack and seems to enjoy himself every time he steps on to the pitch. Carlos is a great player but most importantly for me, he plays in the same left-back position as I do and I have always tried to copy his style. "I'm not sure I do the same as he does with free-kicks but I'm starting to build myself up by practising his corners."   Need your Celtic news fix? Levein ignores talk of job on-line if Scotland failed to beat Liechtenstein
Craig Levein has dismissed talk that he would have been sacked had Scotland failed to beat Liechtenstein in Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier. In just Levein's second competitive game in charge, Scotland put in a dire performance against the minnows at Hampden Park and had to rely on a 97th-minute winner from Stephen McManus to save face and earn a 2-1 victory. Despite the win masking what was a disappointing evening in Glasgow, Levein is remaining in bullish mood, insisting he would not have been dismissed if McManus' late header had not gone in. "That's just stupid talk. That thought never entered my head," he told The Times. "It was only my second competitive game in charge so it is stupid for anyone to talk like that. "Of course I would have been gutted if we hadn't got the three points, but we did. Yes, it was dramatic, but it doesn't matter to me if we score in the 60th minute or in the 95th minute. We won the game. "It's a nonsense. How could Scotland possibly make any progress if sacking the manager was going on after any setback? "What I am trying to do is build something here, with a philosophy that the players will buy into and as things stand in our group, we are looking OK."

Hibernian figures continue to add up
Hibernian Hibernian have announced financial results for the year ending July 31, 2010 which showed a profit for the sixth consecutive year. A net profit of £100,000 came in a year which saw staff costs increase to £4.8million - a ratio of 68% to turnover - with turnover decreased by eight per cent to £7.1million. Chairman Rod Petrie said: "To have achieved a profit for six consecutive years is a truly outstanding achievement within football, let alone football within Scotland. "Being in 'profit' means that the club is self sufficient and in control of its own destiny - it also means any surplus income is retained within the club and re-invested for the future. "The club's financial position is the envy of many other clubs."
