Chelsea Planning A Bid for Landon Donovan

Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation with Everton winger Landon Donovan. The People says Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti sees the on-loan LA Galaxy captain as a replacement for Joe Cole. Ancelotti has been so impressed with the Los Angeles Galaxy forward during his loan spell with Everton, that he has asked club chiefs to open talks with Major League Soccer chiefs about a permanent transfer.

Donovan, 28, is due to return to LA for the start of the MLS season after today's Premier League clash with Hull - although Everton boss David Moyes hopes to extend the loan deal.

But Moyes knows Everton cannot afford to sign the player on a permanent basis. Donovan's spell at Goodison Park has been such a success that the player is said to be tempted by the prospect of a permanent move to the Premier League.

And Ancelotti believes Donovan would fit perfectly into a front three with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

Yep, figured he'd be in their sights as a cheaper alternative to Joe Cole who's wage demands are in the stratosphere, relatively speaking. It would be sweet to see him in the hole behind Drogba and Anelka with the way he can slide in a pass and the English love his delivery from corners.

I'm just glad that he's walked out of the EPL without having been cut apart by the shoddy tackles (or should we call them assaults) that seem to happen week in and week out.

If this happens, it will be:
1. very sad for Everton fans who embraced LD
2. shocking.

I too am relieved that he wasn't injured by a Shawcross-like hack...

Why so sad for Everton? They couldn't afford him to start with and Landon gave them a very nice jumpstart when they needed it. They should focus on keeping that Rodwell kid who looks like real quality.

I hope this is just another story as I personally would never make this switch. Not because Joe is indispensable but simply because I don't rate Donovan anywhere near JC.

However, there is this big IF and it's regarding Joe's salary at Chelsea. He expects more money for lesser performances. Of course I'm aware he's been injured and that injury took its toll, but he had his chance and unfortunately he isn't performing the way he used to 3-4 years ago.

Majority of Chelsea supporters love JC, especially supporters from London, but if change must happen then I hope Ancelotti spends more time working with Kalou rather than targeting possible replacement. At least not now.

Seriously, Joe Cole to me is what was missing for Chelsea in that CL game against Inter Milan. I've always been a big fan of Cole because he has that rare ability to play any game you want - can play it cute with a fine array of offensive skills or can muck it up with the best of them.

Would be sad to see him leave Chelsea, but the wage bill seems to be what's motivating Chelsea these days. I suspect that's one of the driving forces behind their recent treatment of Ashley Cole.

I like Joe Cole. Rumor has it Fergie wants to bring him to Old Trafford on a free. Are you kidding me? United could get a quality midfielder for NOTHING?!?!?! He would certainly be an improvement on Carrick, who's continued to disappoint this season. I'm not sure how much Scholes has left in his tank, although he's at the point where if he wants to go one more year, he's earned it. I could see Cole working quite nicely with Giggs and Fletcher. I think he would also allow Wayne Rooney to just do his thing up top. Maybe I'm a little excited because I've become accustomed to United being sodomized in the transfer market (25 million for Valencia? Really?) but I love the potential Joe Cole could bring.

As for LD at Chelski, mixed feelings due to my hatred for the club. Helluva move for an American, as big as Gooch at Meeeelan, although the EPL apologists would argue it would be the biggest move in the history of sport, a move on par with Omar Bradley and Monty at El-Alamein against Rommel. That's ridiculous, of course, but LD could fit in quite nicely. I'd be curious to see what kind of on-field rapport he could have with Drogba. With that said, I really hate Chelski.

I kind of assumed they were pretty set on the scumbag department with John Terry and that's why they have no need for A.Cole.

Dead on call, homey! I'd certainly take him at Juventus - and we don't like English players, ya know? I've read that Cole and Jenas are taking Italian lessons for this summer's transfer window - for what it's worth.

I think it's the wage bill that Chelsea is trying to trim down, because it could be argued that younger players who arrive on moderate transfer fees can be resold to the Madrids and Inters with a resale value.

If I'm Manchester City, I'd do everything I could to keep Joe Cole out of United's backyard though.

LOL ... where's our resident Chelsea fan stand on this mess? The Blues have more douchebags working for them than Scores in the city.

Same here. Always thought JC would stay at the Bridge until the end of his career. The great thing about him is that he always puts great effort and that combined with his skills (when performs the way he knows) is extremely dangerous weapon against any opponent.

But in all honesty, at this stage he simply cannot ask for that money. I don't know what was his response but I think I read Chelsea offered him 100K per week. Really hard to say this but if he thinks that's not enough then...
