Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli knows they can make history tonight against Champions League opponents Bayern Munich. With AC Milan and Inter facing tough trips to England, the Viola are perhaps the most likely of the Italian teams to reach the quarter-final as they host the German giants with a 2-1 deficit to overturn.
And despite Louis van Gaal's side's wonderful form of late being in stark contrast to that of Fiorentina, Prandelli still believes his team can make it through to the last eight.
“Tomorrow night we will try to make history,” said the Orzinuovi born tactician.
“At this moment, we've detached ourselves completely. We see it as an extraordinary opportunity.
“There are no problems with either fatigue or in the mind, we just have to get into the game immediately.
“They have been on a run of 17 good results, but it is time that the run stops. We know how strong they are. We will have to read the game well.”

I took Fiorentina on a 1-0 projection. Neither team can score enough goals, so that's why I've got the Viola.

He took down the table. Looks like Fiorentina's the play today. Smells like a big table going that late - can you indulge us vicarious little pathetic gamblers who wish we were there? ;) |

Smells like a big table going that late - can you indulge us vicarious little pathetic gamblers who wish we were there? ;) I took the Viola too - just because they are more built for Europe than they are Serie A. They get pushed around too easy with the better defensive units in Italy, but when they are allowed to run they are a blast to watch. As far as last night is concerned: that made my three months last night, or was it this morning? Pulled a third jack against a pair of kings in the hole and took it down. I should go to church up the street later and light a few candles with the Filipina rosary crew, capece? :] |

Here we go again with an English douchebag announcer calling Italian football fans racist for trying to rattle a rookie every time he touches the ball. And people wonder why Italians despise the English on average.

You can catch more of Mr. Darke's work for ESPN this summer in South Africa. I thought he was largely good today in covering the game, but the typical BS racist stuff was a bit over the top coming out at halftime - just cover the goddamned game and save us the periphery when you're broadcasting from England. They were whistling at that kid like they did against Lahm - to get the play moving faster from the sideline.Luckily for me I'll be watching a Sky Italia feed or at a casino with the sound turned down and I won't have to put up with the typical English stereotypes. |

Really, you have to hand it to ESPN. Bring in the mercenaries from SkySports and put them to work in SA is a brilliant move because it gives the network a lot of credibility with fans in the US and it shows fans in the UK who might be wary of ESPN expanding their presence in Britain that the network is quite serious about soccer. I'm looking foward to how the WC is covered in this country. I think we're going see the tournament get some serious love from the cretins in the American mainstream media, especially if the Nats do something. |

Look, you know I'm obviously down with anything that grows the sport in this country. It's about freaking time, no? Probably since you and I were walking around with colorful Euro shirts getting laughed and pointed at outside of our comfortable little ethnic worlds.I just wish they'd cut the crap with the racist banter - because that wasn't the case today. The whistles were about getting under a 17 wingback than they were about race. I know the people of Florence firsthand - they are not much different than anything you find in any second tier city. |
