United Protesters To Stage Dramatic No-Show Protest for AC Milan Game

Manchester United fans are ready to hold a visible and dramatic protest for their Champions League clash with AC Milan. The Daily Mail says thousands of United fans are ready to boycott the opening 10 minutes of tomorrow's Champions League clash with AC Milan at Old Trafford in a mass anti-Glazer protest.

The planned demonstration could bring the 'green and gold' campaign led by Manchester United Supporters' Trust into conflict with manager Sir Alex Ferguson for the first time, after the United boss insisted he would accept any protest as long as it did not have a detrimental effect on his team.

So far, supporters have respected his wishes, but the plan for up to 10,000 fans to remain outside the ground at kick-off and burn effigies of the club's American owner Malcolm Glazer - while their team try to build on a 3-2 first-leg lead in a crucial European game - is in danger of crossing the line.

MUST chief executive Duncan Drasdo insisted last night that it was not an official protest being planned by his organisation, but said he would not try to stand in the way of fans if they wanted to go ahead with it.

"We're not co-ordinating anything but we're not against it either," said Drasdo. "People can make up their own minds over how to express themselves but we're not pushing it at the moment. We have other priorities.

"We're more interested in participation in the internet campaign. The green and gold is a better illustration of the campaign for change."

This ought to be an interesting development for a Champions League match ... anybody know if they've gotten violent about this business yet?

They've been pretty calm over there ... so far. At least from what I can tell. But you never know with the English. One minute a sack of pansies and the next moment a 1,000 man mosh pit with weapons breaks out.

Everything I've read is a premium is being placed on the safety of those taking part in the protest. Any sort of violence or vandalism is encouraged to be reported to proper authorities. I'm hoping any protest goes off without incident. All it takes is one buffoon to screw up the whole thing.

England's pretty much a police state with all that CCTV business rigged up around the country. They'll find you eventually if you get stupid enough to get caught with a pipe cracking in somebody's squash.

to whom would they direct this violence? opposing fans that have nothing to do with it and likely agree? destruction of old trafford 'a world-recognized temple of football?'

maybe dynamo should get the fabrication machines cranked up and start churning out newton heath crests...

Hey Jim! Nice you could join in the debate. Not a bad idea on the Newton Heath crests so I'll take that one to the designers for sure! Hopefully you'll come to realize that the "dynamo" here took my handle two years ago just to be a jerk for the fun of it, but it seems he's turned it into a cottage industry of sorts.

I like this nickname a lot better, as I'm sure you're well aware of by now. Great to have you and great point on directing their violence.

Football fans directing violence ... they've been setting fires to the Stadio in Turn as of late, but maybe that's a bit prudent given that the new Juventus stadium is just around the corner. But certainly Serie A does not hold a premium on irrational fanbases, if you catch my drift.

I've seen pictures of the new Stadio delle Alpi (it's on the same site, yes?) and it looks fantastic, although the capacity seems a bit on the small side.

You talking about the Juve website? All I know is that they've finally gotten rid of that ridiculous running track and moved the fans in real tight (not sure it's that good of an idea knowing the fanbase) and they have a ton of VIP boxes like you see in Spain and England. That means crazy revenue.

I think even Galliani and Moratti have gotten hip to the concept along with the boys in Fiorentina - fix the stadium issues in Italy and the rest will solve itself. A visit from the Euros in 2016 should push this over the edge.

Update the stadiums in Italy and watch the money roll in. It will be similar to the boom English football experienced after the implementation of the Taylor Report, if not greater.
