I just went to the Peubla website to find footage of Gomez' goal this weekend, which was a very mice one by the way, and was struck by something... They are a pretty big club in a pretty big league and there was no English option on their sight(to make sure it wan't unique to their site I also checked Toluca, Cruz Azul and America's and found the same). There are dinky clubs in much smaller European leagues (BEL, ROM, UKR etc) with at least English versions of their sites.
Through my rudimentary Spanish I managed to find the clips without too much difficulty. I think the time when that league starts (since they are heavly broadcasted on Univision, Telemundo, etc.) posting english web content it will signal a positive benchmark of growth in the 'gringo' sector of the NA sports scene.

Actually it works both ways too. We're in the process of launching into 10 different languages because our marketplace while heavily dominated by US and UK traffic, we're seeing an explosion south of the border and across Asia. Glad to see MLS - with that death trap of a website (not my words, Fake Sigi's) - at least makes the effort to go multi-lingual. | |

Glad to see MLS - with that death trap of a website (not my words, Fake Sigi's) - at least makes the effort to go multi-lingual. haha- as someone who has moved your life like me (but in opposite directions) across the atlantic, i'm glad you're on the same page with me on this one.i do from time to time look at mls.net, but never realized they don't have a spanish version. WOW- they sell broadcast rights to some of the spanish language broadcasters in NA, don't they? pretty boneheaded not to do their site in espanol and support/compliment that isn't it? |

Jim,I swear if you want to be taken seriously in this sport and you haven't already made plans to address being multi-lingual at some point in your near-term plan you'll be out of business. Especially if you're an American site that largely caters to the American audience: there is no longer a giant monolithic white-English speaking audience that will bail you out like we see with the NFL, NBA or MLB (and that's drying up quicker than a sponge on Las Vegas Blvd). exactly, i know the NBA has their site in 6-8 languages and has a special page devoted specifically to foreign players. both them and the NFL broadcast in spanish so i am more than certain they have sites in spanish and imagine MLB has a spanish site as well. the only league that is arguably more latin than them in NA is MLS, to not translate their content into spanish is plain and simple boneheaded. |

to update my comments above, the MLS site does actually have a bare bones spanish version, but it includes a minimal amount of mostly old and stale content. SMH | |
